シュグルスキーから帰ってきた次の日。全身すごい筋肉痛（笑）。やっぱりだめですね・・朝起き上がれなくて。アメリカの雪質はとてもよいらしくて、みんなコロラドなんかにスキーに行ってますけど、信じられません・・・。シュグルで行ったスキーリゾートは、人工スキーらしく、かつアメリカは土日月と３連休なのでとても混んでいたようなのですが、１５年ぶりにスキーをするので、人工雪の雪質が良くないこととか混んでることとか比べる対象を知らないで私にはわかりませんけど・・・しかし運動不足。先週、今年初めてテニスをしましたけど、今年は、そのテニスとスキーだけが、私の唯一した運動だったり・・・。そりゃ筋肉痛にもなりますね。
At the next day after returning from Sughrue ski, I have sore muscles over my whole body… It is no good. I could not get up in the morning. I cannot believe some of Japanese trainees go skiing to Colorado, because the quality of snow in the US is really good. In the ski resort where I went by Sughrue invitation, I heard the snow is artificial and very crowded because three-day weekend this week. But I do not know whether or not the artificial snow is not good or the ski resort is crowded, because I went to skiing for the first time in 15 years and I do not know the comparison objects. Well, I am short of exercise these days. Although I went to play tennis last week, only the tennis and Sughrue ski are my activities that I have done this year… I can understand the reason why I have sore muscles…

Go missing?!
スキーリゾートで、土曜の夜は、シュグルのパーティがホテルであって、N社のHさんの車で向かいましたが、その日は朝から雪。私たちが泊まったハウスは山の上にあって、坂道が閉鎖で、ホテルに向かうことできません。諦めて、みんなでおうちに帰って、さて、ご飯どうしよう、ということになりました。まるで遭難生活（笑）。みんなで持ってきてる飲み物やスナックを出し合って飢えをしのぐ？感じでした（苦笑）。大人はいいけれど、小さい子供達がかわいそう。もうちょっと考えて準備してくるんでした。ってか、山なの中で孤立するなんて思ってなかったわけですけど・・。で、その後除雪車が通り、道路は通れるようになり、月曜まで滞在するつもりでしたが、その日の夜中にDCに戻りました。
There was a Sughrue party at night on Saturday in the ski resort, so I went to the party with Mr. and Mrs. H from N company. However it was snowing since morning. The house where we stayed was on the top of the mountain and the road was closed because of too much snow. Therefore we gave up going to the party, and came back to the house. But we had no idea what we ate!! It was just like we go lost in the mountain. We assembled drinks and snacks which we brought to the house, then we kept hunger away with snacks... We, adults, were fine but I felt sorry about children. I should have thought and prepared before coming... I could not imagine we cut ourselves off from the world! After that, the snow remover removed the snow on the road, and the load was opened. Although I planned to stay there until Monday, I returned to DC in the midnight because of some work to do.
Sughrue ski trip
シュグルの招待で、DCから車で３時間ほどのところにあるスキーリゾートに行ってきました。アトーニーも家族で参加します。多くの日本人トレイニーも参加します。みんな５，６ベッドルームの貸別荘のようなハウスに分かれて泊まりました。ほぼ全室シャワートイレ完備のゴージャスなおうちです。
ところで、なんと私はスキー１５年ぶり。しかもスキーウェアがなく、レンタルもないとのことで、たぶん行っても滑れないだろうと思ってました。土曜日の朝、とりあえずレンタルスキーを借りにスキー場に行ったら、知り合いが、あなたウェアもっていないなら、私のを着なさいと一式貸してもらうことに。で、知り合いとはぐれてうろうろしてたら、N社のYさんにばったり。彼にスキーを教えてもらって、１５年ぶりにリフトに乗ってスキーをしてしまいました・・・。滑ったとはお世辞にも言えないけど、超久しぶりのスキーを満喫しました。
I went to Ski resort which was three hours by car from DC by Sughrue invitation. Many attorneys participated the trip with their family, and many Japanese trainees also participated the trip with their family. We stayed at a gorgeous house which has five or six bed rooms. Most of the rooms had its own bathroom, so it was a very nice house. BTW, I go skiing for the first time in 15 years. Further I do not have a ski wear, snow goggle and gloves, so I thought I could not ski. But first of all, I went to ski site to rent ski, then I met an attorney’s wife. She said, if you do not have your own ski wear, you can wear my ski wear. Then I rented her ski wear, cap and gloves. After that, I was separated from my friends, I happened to meet Mr. Y from N company. He can ski very well, so he taught me how to ski, then I skied for the first time in 15 years! My skiing was no good, to say the least, but I fully enjoyed skiing which was my first skiing for a while.
Grandmother’s sister
おばあちゃんの妹さんが、私がアメリカにいるということを聞いて、いっぱい色紙を送ってくれました。色紙の上に、着物を着ている女の子や男の子や女の人や男の人が、絹のちりめんで、貼り付けてある？ものです。妹さんは、８０歳だそうですが、とても元気だそうです。こちらの友達やアトーニにあげたら大変に喜んでくれました。よかったです。アメリカ人は日本のお土産で何が気にいるのかまだよくわかりませんが。。。さて、おばあちゃんの妹さんには会ったことない気がするんですけど、どうやってお礼すればいいのかな・・・。
My grandmother’s sister heard about my stay in the US, then she sent me many paper dolls. They are what dolls of a girl, a boy, a woman, and a man wearing "Kimono"
are attached to a square paper by using silk cloth. Hearing from my mother, my grandmother’s sister is over 80, but she is still very fine. I gave the paper dolls to American friends and attorneys, and they were very pleased with. So I am very happy.. I don’t know yet what kind of Japanese presents they like... Well, as I suppose I have never seen my grandmother’s sister, I don’t know how to thank her...
Spring is coming up
なんだか春がきたみたいに暖かいです。昨日は、夜でも２０℃ありました。今日も朝から１５℃くらいあって、コートが要らないです。というか、暑くてコートきれません。急に暖かくなっちゃったものだから着る物がないです。特許事務所は、どこでも３月が異常に忙しいので、気がつくと４月になってた、なんていうのがいつもですけど、今年は、日に日に春を感じられそうです。DCの桜は相当キレイと聞くので、とても楽しみ♪

Saint Valentine's Day
もうじきバレンタインデーです。日本では、女の子が男の子にチョコレートを渡しますが、アメリカでは、その逆です。つまり、男の子が女の子にチョコを渡すのです。スーパーマーケットやCVS（マツキヨみたいな薬局）では、そこら中にチョコレートが売ってます。そういうことをは、日本と一緒です。日本では、バレンタインデーに女の子がチョコを渡して、ホワイトデーには、男の子がそのお返しをするんだよ、とアメリカ人に言うと、みんな驚きます。バレンタインデーはアメリカで過ごした方がよさそうです^^。

There are many chocolates all over the place in supermarkets and CVS (kind of Matumotokiyoshi). Those are the same as Japan. REAL
ブラジルの通貨は、レアルです。１レアル、４０円くらいみたいです。今日、シティバンクに行って、レアルを買いたいと言ったら、扱ってないと言われました（笑）。そんな・・・私はどこで、ブラジルマネーを買えばいいの?? Sughrueから歩いて10分くらい、Kストリート沿いに、両替があるんだけれど、そこで両替するか、空港で替えるしかないみたいです。やっぱりブラジルって遠い国の気がします。
The currency of Brazil is R$. One R$ is about 40 yen. I went to City Bank, and I said I would like to buy R$, they said they do not handle Brazilian money… So, where should I get Brazilian money?? My friend taught me I should go to the exchange which is in K Street in DC or I should exchange money in the airport.

Face to face
アメリカでつくづく大事だな、と思うことは、face to faceです。電話だとだめ、メールでもまだ足りない。やっぱり、顔を見て話すと全然理解の度合いが違います。特に、私は、英語が全然ダメなので、難しい話は、必ず会って話さないとだめです。たまに、事務所に来るの大変だろうから、電話でもいいよ、などと言われますが、私は必ず会いに行きます。今日もパートナーと複雑な案件の相談をメールでしていて、やっぱり話会った方がいい、face to faceで、と言われました。そのとおりです。審査段階で、審査官とたまにface to faceでインタビュしますけど、理解度が全然違います。やっぱり、プライベートも含めて、大切な事は、たとえ日本人同士で会っても、会って話さないとだめですね。でも最近は、TVショッピング慣れして、何か注文したりキャンセルしたりする電話は、得意になってきました!! 断ったりする場合は、顔を合わせない方がいい場合もありますね（苦笑）。

Sometimes attorneys say to me “We can talk about this using telephone, because I think you do not have enough time to come to my office.” However, I certainly go to see the attorney. I talked with a partner about complicated work using with e-mail today, then he said we had better to talk face-to-face. I positively agree with him. In the prosecution, we sometimes talk with an examiner face-to-face, the examiner can understand very well rather than non-interview. I think if we talk an important thing including private, we should talk with face-to-face. BUT, I became expert at ordering something or canceling something by using telephone, because I get used to TV shopping!! In some cases such as saying no, we do not need to see each other, I think.

Nagoya-meshi
DCに住んでいる名古屋にゆかりのある人達だけの名古屋飯を食べようパーティがありました。私の担当は、ひつまぶし。大きっなうなぎを３匹かって、ご飯５合半炊きました。１５人前なので（笑）。DCで手に入るウナギは、一般に東京で食べられているようなウナギで、たぶん蒸してから焼いてあるので、とても柔らかいです。ひつまぶしのウナギはもっと硬くてぱりぱりしてないとだめなんですけど。その他、手羽先（風来坊風）、みそカツ、みそ煮込みうどん、小倉トースト（これ、外せません）と、岐阜出身の子が栗きんとんを作ってくれて、久しぶりに名古屋飯を堪能しました。東京にいても、こんなにたくさんの名古屋飯を食べることできません。やればできるのね、って感じ。
The party was held by the persons who have some relations with Nagoya-city in Japan
and now live in DC. My part was to cook Nagoya food “Hitsumabushi”. I bought three big eels and boiled five cups of rice, because I had to cook for 15 people. The eels I can get in DC are maybe grilled after boiling as well as eels which I can get in Tokyo, so they are very tender. I I did need more hard and crispy eels for "Hitumabushi." Other person cooked "Tebasaki (style of Furaibou),miso-katsu, miso-nikomi udon, ogura toast (I like it very much), and kuri-kinton" which was made by person from Gifu prefecture. Then we ate Nagoya food very much. I cannot eat so many Nagoya food, even if I were in Tokyo. Yes, we can!
I cannot type “t”!!
ノートPCのキーボードが壊れました。Tがタイプできないんです。英語だと、小文字ｔと大文字Tだけなので、ペーストすればなんとかなるんですけど、日本語だと相当大変。た、ち、つ、て、との全部が打てない。US特許庁から拒絶理由が通知されました。という文章を打つのに、特許庁と拒絶通知と通知が打てません。この文章だけで１５分くらいかかったりします（苦笑）。修理に出すと、PCを取られちゃうので、出せません。ノートPCは、USで、命の次に大事かも（笑）。諦めて、2日後にキーボードを買いました。でもノートのキーボードの上に、キーボードを乗せると、無線を買ったせいか、うまく作動しない・・・。有線のにしておけばよかった・・・。ってか、PCを買わないとだめですかね。

because it is wireless. It might be necessary for me to buy a new laptop computer.

あと、２ヶ月、悔いの残らないように、一生懸命仕事しようと決めたのはいいのですけど、仕事をいっぱい入れ過ぎて、てんぱってしまいました。おかげで、ブログも１週間以上、ほったらかし・・・。夜は、事務所へのメールの返信と発明者への電話で寝れず、早朝は、その日のミーティングの準備のために早起きし、一日中ミーティングして、結局仕事する時間がなく・・・。Hibiki in Yokohamaも相当忙しいみたいですけど・・・。
Since my training has only two months to go, I decided to work very very hard in order not to leave any regrets. Farewell party
S社のHさんが帰国するといことで、Viennaにある日本食レストラン、ブルーオーシャンで送別会をしました。ブルーオーシャンは、DCに住む日本人には、かなりメジャーなレストランというか、居酒屋です。お好み焼きや、イカそうめん、ホウレンソウの胡麻和え、茶碗蒸しなどなど、一般的な居酒屋メニューが並んでます。味はイマイチですけど、懐かしい感じがします。それにしても、最近、帰国ラッシュ。友達がどんどん日本に帰って寂しいです。
As Ms H of S corporation returns to Tokyo, we had a farewell party at a Japanese restaurant "Blue Ocean" in Vienna. Blue Ocean is a quite well-known restaurant to Japanese who live in DC, which I suppose to be an IZAKAYA. They serve very common Japanese foods such as OKONOMIYAKI, IKA SOUMEN, SPINISH GOMAAE, and CHAWANMUSHI. I think it tastes not so good, but I can feel a little nostalgic. I think they taste not so good, but I can feel a little nostalgic.
BTW, many trainees returns or have returned to their own country recently, so I feel sad.
