Hironari

おねーちゃんから、寛成クンの写真が送られてきました。あんまりかわいいのでアップ。なんてかわいんだろう。こんな顔されたら、明細書１０件くらい書いちゃいそうです（笑）、って書いても寛成は喜ばんか・・・。

My sister sent me Hironari’s photo. How pretty Hironari is!!! I can write 10 specifications for him because he is really pretty. But Hironari might be not pleased…

Tax free

ヨーロッパで買い物して、免税するためには、その国かヨーロッパを出国する最終国で、書類にハンコを押してもらって、封筒に入れて投函しないといけません。で、私は、ヨーロッパに行くたびに思うのですけど、このスタンプを押す場所がとってもわかりにくくて、空港のものすごい隅にあって、そしていつも混んでる。なので、免税手続きをするときは、出発時間の３時間くらい前に行かなければいけません。基本的に、税金を払い戻したくないのですね、と私はいつも思うのです。

We have to affix a stamp in a tax free paper in Italy or the final country of Europe to exempt tax when we buy duty free goods, and we put it into a postbox. Whenever I go to Europe, I think that the place where we get stamps is difficult to find. It is in the corner of an airport and always crowded. Therefore, if we go through procedure of tax-free, we have to reach an airport three hours before our departure. I think, basically, they don’t want to make a refund.

Milan

楽しかったイタリア旅行もミラノで終了。私たちは、ミラノでは、観光はおいておいて、ショッピングすることにしました。なんやかんやいっても、女の子は、ショッピングが一番楽しいのです。またまた色々買ってしまいました。今年の冬のボーナスが消えたな・・・
せっかくミラノにいるのだからと夜、ナイトクラブに行くことにしました。で、お店を探しているときに知り合ったイタリア人と一緒に踊りに行こう、ということになって、遊びに連れて行ってもらいました。
行ったところは、とっても大きなディスコで、生バンド（ボーカルは女の子）が歌ってました。久しぶりにディスコなんて行って、とっても楽しかったです。

The fun trip would finish in Milan. We decided to go shopping being resigned to doing sightseeing. Eventually, every girls love shopping best. We bought many things. We lost our winter bonus.
We came all the way to Milan, we decided to go to night club. When we were looking for the spot, we met four boys and they taught us the way to the spot. In the course of the conversation, we were asked to go to dance together, then we were taken to the disco.
The disco where we went was very large disco, and the vocalist who was a girl was singing a song. It has been a while since we have gone to disco, we had a real good time.

Venice

ベネチアは、とても小さい町です。１日で観光できてしまいます。移動手段は、水上バス、水上タクシーで、車は１台も走っていません、というか車が走れるような広い通りはありません。私達も水上バスに乗って観光に出かけました。
観光都市のベネチアは、小さいお土産ショップがいくつもあって、とってもかわいいベネチアンガラスのネックレス、ピアス、小瓶、ワイングラス等が売っていて、見ているだけでとても楽しかったです。ただ、道路が迷路みたいに入り組んでいて、一度通った道を再び通るのは至難のわざ、って感じでした。

Venice is a very small town. We can do sightseeing in only a day. Means of transportation are a water bus and a water taxi. There is no car in Venice because there are no roads where cars can drive. We also did sightseeing by a water bus.
There are many small shops which sell necklaces, pierced earrings, and wine glasses of Venetian Glass in tourist city Venice. So we were very pleased to see them even if we didn’t buy anything.
However, the streets were like labyrinth, so we couldn't pass by the same street which we passed by once before.

Firenze

フィレンツェでは、ウフィツィ美術館に行きました。ここも予約が必要です。美術館の予約は、たいていＨＰからできます。また、いくつかの旅行会社が代行予約を受け付けています。
フィレンツェでは、行ってみたいレストランがあって、それはサバティーニでした。東京のサバティーニには行ったことがあって（いまいち）、で、フィレンツェの本店だったらおいしいのでは、と期待して予約しました。
行ってびっくり。お料理もそんなおいしくなかったですけれど、お客がみごと１００％日本人でした。地元の人は誰も来ないってことですね・・・、でも納得。

I went to Galleria degli Uffizi in Firenze. We have to make a reservation here. We usually can make a reservation at HP. And some travel agencies help to make a reservation.
I had a restaurant which I would like to go, which was Sabatini. I went to Sabatini in Tokyo (it was not so good), but I thought Sabatini in Firenze was better because it was an original restaurant. So I was looking forward to going there, and we made a reservation. When we went there, we were surprised. The customers were 100% Japanese, and the food was not so good. Local people never go to Sabatini, now I understand it.

Capri

ナポリでは早起きして、早朝の船に乗ってカプリ島に向かいました。いよいよ青の洞窟に行く日です。私たしは、最初、青の洞窟に行きたくてイタリア行きを決めたので、青の洞窟を見ることが旅の目的といっても過言ではありません。ナポリからの船は、５０分くらいでしたけれど、ものすごい揺れて船酔いしそうでした。さて、カプリ島についてホテルに行くのにタクシーに乗りましたけど、カプリ島のタクシーは、全車オープンカーでした。で、ホテルまでの道は車が一台通るか通らないかくらいのとても狭い道で、おまけに車が入れるところは限られていて、相当長い距離を荷物を押して歩きました。大変だった・・・で、港に戻って青の洞窟見学に行こうとしたんだけれど、波が高くて中止でした。しょうがないので、カプリ島観光に出かけましたが、これが結構楽しかったです。ものすごく狭い範囲に、リゾート地だけあって、プラダやグッチなどのブランドショップが立ち並んでいてこれまたお買いもの天国。でも、私たちは荷物が重くなるのが怖くて買い物できませんでしたけれど。で、翌日、青の洞窟見学、再チャレンジしましてけれど、やっぱり波が高くてダメでした。お天気は最高によかったのですけれど。でも、せっかく来たんだからと、青の洞窟見学に行く船に乗り（青の洞窟には入れないことがわかっているのに、船は出ている。。）、青の洞窟の入り口を見て、更に緑の洞窟なるものを見てきました。海がきれいなグリーンでした。青の洞窟は、どれほどかきれいなんだろうと大変残念でしたけれど、これで、またイタリアに来る理由ができたなーぁなどと思ったりもするのでした。

We got up early in the morning in Napoli, we headed for Capri by taking an early-morning ship. The time has come where we go to the Blue Cave. Initially, we decided to visit Italy because we wanted to see the Blue Cave, so it is no exaggeration that our purpose of this trip is to see the Blue Cave. Although the ship ride was about 50 minutes, I was going to get seasick because the ship was tossing on the waves.
After we arrived in Capri, we took a taxi. I was surprised that all taxies are convertible. The road in Capri was very narrow and where one car can pass or not. Further, the taxi couldn’t go in front of the hotel because the road is too narrow, so we had to carry our baggage to the hotel for a long way. That was terrible.
Then we returned to the harbor, and were going to take a tour of the Blue Cave. But the tour was canceled because the waves run high. Then we did sightseeing, it was fun. As may be expected of resort, Capri is shopping paradise because there are many brand shop such as PRADA and GUCCI in very small area. But we couldn’t buy many things in distaste of getting our baggage heavy.
Then next day, we tried to go a tour of the Blue Cave, unfortunately, we couldn’t enter the Blue Cave. Since we came to Capri, we took a ship which went to the Blue Cave, and we saw the entrance of the Blue Cave and we also saw Green Cave. The color of sea was very clear green. I imagine how beautiful the Blue Cave would be, unfortunately, we couldn’t enter the Blue Cave, but I have a reason to come to Italy again!

Napoli

イタリアは危ないと聞いていましたが、特にナポリは危ないと聞いていたので緊張しました。ローマと比べるとすごく田舎な感じでしたね。ナポリにには住みたくない感じです（苦笑）。ローマから移動は列車でしたけれど、私たちは、旅行会社から配布されている列車のチケットでユーロスターに乗ってしまったので、追加の料金を取られました。ちなみに、ユーロスターは、お金持ちが乗る列車なので、出発までは、荷物の近くにいて見張っていた方がよいそうです。
ナポリは、外出するのが怖かったので、マルゲリータ発祥のレストランにだけ行くことにしました。マルゲリータはとってもおいしかったけれど、そういう情報が日本のガイドブックに載っているので、店のお客の半分くらいは日本人でした（笑）。

I have heard Italy is quite dangerous, and to make matters worse, particularly dangerous Napoli is. So we got a little nervous. Napoli is more provincial than Rome, I think. I would like to avoid living in Napoli. BTW, we moved by train from Rome to
Napoli. As we took an Eurocity by using train tickets which were given by HIS, we were charged additional fee. We must buy special express tickets. Note that, as EC is a train rich people take, we had better stay near our luggage and watch them until its departure.

Rome

ローマでは、ヴァチカンにあるサンピエトロ大聖堂や、システィーナ礼拝堂のあるヴァチカン美術館に行きました。ヴァチカン美術館は、２，３時間待ちの長蛇の列ができます。なので、行く前には、必ず予約をする必要があります。あたし達は、出発２、３日前に大急ぎで予約しましたけれど、大丈夫でした。ローマは観光の宝庫です。コロッセオを見て、真実の口に手を突っ込み、トレビの泉では、後ろ向きになって左肩越しからコインを投げて、再度イタリアに来られることを願いました。夜はサンピエトロ大聖堂が一望できるレストランで、初のイタリア料理を頂きました。ローマは、土曜、日曜滞在で月曜出発でしたけれど、（土曜日は、シンシナティ泊）日曜日は、ほとんどの美術館やお店がお休みします。イタリア旅行に来る人は、日曜日を移動日に当てるように気をつけて下さい。

I visited to St. Peter's Basilica and Vatican Museums having Sistine Chapel in Vatican in Rome. At Vatican Museums, if you don’t make a reservation, you have to stand and wait in huge queues in hours. Therefore, we did make a reservation before visiting. We made a reservation only a couple of days before our departure, but we could avoid to wait for long time. Rome has many many sightseeing spots. We went to the Colosseum, put my hand into the Mouth of Truth, and turned around and threw a coin over our left shoulders in Trevi Fountain and prayed to come back to Italy again. We had dinner at the restaurant having views of St. Peter's Basilica at night. Unfortunately, most of museums and shops in Rome were close on Sunday, so if you visit Italy, be careful of it and you had better move on Sunday.

Schedule

イタリアでは、ローマ、ナポリ、カプリ島、フィレンツェ、ベネチア、ミラノに滞在しました。ローマとフィレンツェが２泊で後は１泊ずつです。荷物を持って、電車での移動は、正直相当大変でしたけれど、いろいろな場所に行かれたのでイタリアを満喫することができました。南側はパスタがおいしくて、北側がリゾットがおいしかったです。ナポリで食べたマルゲリータ、カプリ島で食べた手打ちパスタ、ミラノのゴルゴンゾーらのリゾットなんかは感動的でした。７泊で女二人でワイン９本、イタリアのおいしいワインもたくさん飲みました。イタリアは、食事がおいしいので、それだけでもイタリアに行く甲斐があると思います。
あまり知られていないかもしれませんが、アメリカには、アルデンテがありません。おいしいパスタは、唯一、自分で作るしかないので、旅行中は、パスタ三昧でした。おいしかった～。

I stayed in Roma, Napoli, Capri, Firenze, Venice, and Milan in Italy. We stayed two days in each Roma and Firenze, and one day in other cities each. To be honest, it was not easy for me to carry a big baggage and move by train, but I fully enjoyed Italy because we could go many different places. I think pasta is very good in south area and risotto is very good in north area.
I was impressed by margarita in Napoli, handmade pasta in Capri, and risotto of gorgonzola in Milan. We drank nine bottles of wine for seven nights and they were all local Italian's. I think there are many kinds of good food in Italy, so only that is well worth going to Italy.
It is a little known facts that America doesn’t have spaghetti with al dente. The only way that I can eat spaghetti with al dente in US is to cook by myself. So, during my trip, I ate much pasta. It was really tasty.

News from Italy

夏休みで、１０日間のイタリア旅行に行ってきました。初日は、シンシナティでローマ行の飛行機に乗り換えだったのですが、シンシナティ行きの飛行機が遅れて間に合わず、シンシナティで一晩を過ごす羽目になりました。が、その他は、財布をすられることもなく、タクシーにだまされることもなく、大変楽しい旅行でした。
しばらくは、ワシントン便りならぬ、イタリア便りにしてみようかなぁと（笑）。
さて、シンシナティでは、フランという人に助けて頂きました。チケットの発行、ホテルの手配、荷物のピックアップ、最終的には、ホテルまで送って頂きました。アメリカに来て、困っていると必ず誰かが助けてくれます。私、運がいいのかな、と思っていましたが、違うと思うんです。アメリカってそういう国なんですよね。

I had a summer holiday, so I visited Italy for 10 days. First day, I was going to board another airplane in Cincinnati, but the airplane from Washington DC to Cincinnati was late, so I couldn’t catch the airplane from Cincinnati to Rome. Therefore I stayed at the hotel in Cincinnati for one night. As for the rest, everything was OK, for example, I have never had my purse stolen and I have never got fleeced during the trip. So I had a wonderful time in Italy.

Then, I would like to write News from Italy instead of News from DC.

Well, I had help from Mr. Fran in Cincinnati. He helped me for reissuing airplane ticket, securing a hotel, picking up my baggage, and finally, he drove me to the hotel. Since I came to US, whenever I am in trouble, somebody always helps me. Firstly, I thought I was lucky, but I don’t think so now. I think that is America.

Italy

９月１２日の夕方便で、イタリアに行きます。１０年ぶりのイタリアです。色々調べてみると、イタリアは結構危ないみたい。盗まれるといけないのでPCは置いていくことに。飛行機の中で仕事しようと思いましたが断念。基本的に盗まれてもよいものしか持っていかないことにしました。カバンも一番安いやつに変更。おしゃれもがまんです。カバンと別にウェストポーチなどを持っていくことにしました（笑）。お財布には、少々の現金のみ。カードと現金とパスポートはポーチの中に。私にとっては、一番大事なのは、パスポートの次に薬だったりしますが、まぁ、薬は誰も盗まないだろうとカバンに入れていきます。

I will visit Italy by a flight leaving on the afternoon of September 12. Ten years have passed since I visited there for the first time. Examining an internet, it is very risky in Italy. Therefore I am going not to take my laptop PC with me in order to avoid to be stolen. Although I was planning to work in the airplane, I gave up. I decided to take only the things which were not precious basically. I changed the bag to take with the cheapest one. I have to put up with wearing a fashionable dress in Italy. I am going to bring a belt bag separately from the bag. I put only small money in my purse. The most important thing is my medicine next to a passport. I am sure that nobody wants my medicine, so I put the medicine in my bag.

Return

日本と違ってアメリカの良いところと思いますが、アメリカでは、全てのものが返品できます。この間、ルータと間違ってハブを買ったときも、使用してみて、初めて間違いに気づいたのですが、そんな時も大丈夫。開封していても、レシートさえ持っていけば返品できます。気に入った靴を買って、その１か月後にさらに気に行った靴を買ったとします。その場合も、前に買った靴は、レシートさえあれば返品できます。こちらにきて、常にレシートを取っておく癖がつきました。この品は、絶対返品しない、と思うものでも結構返品したりします。

I think it is a good system that almost all products can be returned. It is not familiar in Japan. When I bought a habu which I mistook for a rooter, I could return it. Although I realized it was not what I wanted after using the habu, it was OK. Even if I opened the box, I can return it only bringing it with a receipt. If you buy shoes because you like it, and you buy other shoes one month later because you like it more, then you can return the previous shoes if you have a receipt. I got into the habit to keep a receipt since I had come to US. Although I thought I never return the products, sometimes I return it.

September 11 attacks

２００１年の９月１１日は、アメリカにとっては、というか全世界的に忘れられない日です。１１日、ワシントンは、各地でイベントが開催されるためか、各地で交通規制が行われるそうです。
私は、２００１年の９月１１日、テレビを見ながら出かける支度をしていました。そのとき、あの飛行機がワールドトレードセンターに突っ込むのを見ました。あまりの衝撃に、出かける支度を忘れて、ぽかんとテレビを見ていたのを覚えています。
NYに行くと何事もなかったようですが、飛行機に液体を持ち込めなくなったり、チェックイン手続きが大変になったりしているのを体験する度に、事件は起きたんだな・・と実感します。

September 11, 2001 is a traumatic day for entire world as well as US. Traffic control will be enforced in DC on September 11, because some events will be held in the various areas in DC.

I was preparing for going out with watching TV on September 11, 2001. Then, at the time, the airplane made a crash into the World Trade Center. I remember it was so shocking that I forgot to prepare for going out. I was just looking at TV blankly..

It seemed nothing had happened when I visited NY. But whenever I go through that I can’t take a liquid in an airplane or it becomes difficult to check in at an airport, I pause to realize the incident did happen.

Stockings

基本的に、アメリカ人は余りストッキングを履かないみたいです。友達に、ストッキングはどのサイズを買えばよいのか聞いたら、履かないからわからないと言われました。そういえば、履いている人少ないかも。で、ストッキングは、CVSなんかで簡単に買えるわけですけど、アメリカのストッキングは、サポート力が弱いです。少しでも足が細く見えるように、ギュッとサポートしてくれると嬉しいのですけれど・・・（苦笑）。

Generally, American seems not to wear stockings so often. When I asked my friend what size I should buy, she said she didn’t know because she didn’t usually wear stockings. Now I remember there are few people who wear stockings in US. Anyway, I can buy stockings in CVS easily, but the support power of stockings in US is very weak.. I hope the support power of stockings in US would be much stronger to make my legs look longer and slender.

Euro

金曜日の夕方から（といっても、帰ってからブログをアップしているので、先週の話ですけど。。）イタリアに行くので、ドルをユーロにエクスチェンジしようとバンカメに行ったら、できないと言われました。なんで・・・。で、シティバンクに行ったら、日本でアカウントを持っていても、アメリカでアカウントを持ってない人は、両替できませんと言われました。で、しょうがないのでアカウントをオープンしたのですが、申込をしてユーロが貰えるのが金曜日ということで、間に合いませんでした・・・。町の両替所では、１ユーロ、１．５６ドルでした。実際のレートは、１ユーロ、１．４０ドルくらいですのでかなり悪いです。そういえば、この間、母が町の両替所で、両替したときも、５万が４００ドルでした。シティバンクのカードを使って、イタリアで直接ユーロを引き出す方がレートがよいようなので、現金を持たずに行ってみることに。大丈夫かな・・。

Since I will visit Italy on Friday this week, I went to Bank of America to exchange dollars into Euros. They said I could obtain Euros on Friday! One Euro is $1.56 at the Exchange in DC. Actual rate is that one Euro is about $1.41, so the exchange rate in DC is very bad. Well, when my mother exchanged Yen into dollars at the Exchange in NY, 50,000yen was only $400. As it seems better for me to withdraw Euros by using my City Bank’s card at ATM in Italy, I am going to visit Italy without much Euros. Am I OK?

New Office

また、オフィスを引っ越しました。Sughrueに来て、４つ目のオフィスです。ただし、今回は、パーマネントみたいです。日本人トレイニーが一人帰国したので、トレイニー部屋が開いたのです。Sughrueは、ビルの５F～８Fまで使用していますが、私のオフィスは、７Fです。結構快適です。

I moved to another office room again. It seems that I will never move once again. As a Japanese trainee had returned to Japan, her office is available. Sughrue uses the floors from the fifth thru the eighth, and my new office room is on the seventh floor. It is very comfortable and I like it.

TV shopping

私は、日本にいたときからテレビショッピングが好きです。夜中にテレビでやってると、特に健康器具、すぐ買っちゃうのですね。必ず、１週間、長くて１か月ほど使用すると、不要になります。ので、実家に送ったり、友達に送ったりしています。こちらでも盛んにテレビショッピングがやってます。アメリカのチャンネルは、５０くらいあるので、そのうち１つのチャネルではテレビショッピングをやってます。で、ほしくなって電話するわけですが、英語で電話するのはとっても難しいです。よく聞き取れなくて、とりあえず、Yesと答えると買えるわけですが、同じものが２個届いたりします・・・。なぜ・・・。

I love TV shopping and I used to use it when I was in Japan. I always buy something such as health appliances when a TV shopping program is on the air. As it always eliminates the need for the health appliances from me within one week or one month at the longest, the health appliances will be sent to my mother or my friends.
In US, a TV shopping program is frequently on the air. As there are about 50 channels in US, a TV shopping program is broadcasted at least one of the channels. When I see a TV shopping program and come to want some health appliances or so, I do call at once. But it is difficult for me to call in English. As I can’t fully catch native English, temporarily, I say “Yes” when she asks me something. I don’t know the reason, but two same products are sometimes delivered to me...

ID

アメリカでは、どこにいってもIDの提示を求められます。レストランでお酒を頼むとき、薬局でお酒やたばこを買うとき、ビルに入るとき、プールバーに入るとき、洋服を買うとき、などなど。運転免許を持ってないときは、常にパスポートを持っていないといけなくてとても不便でしたけど、運転免許を取ってからはとても便利になりました。これだけでも運転免許を取ってよかった～。車はやっぱり全然運転していませんけど・・・。

Someone often asks me to show my ID in US, for example, when I drink alcohol in a restaurant, when I buy alcohol or tobacco at a drugstore, when I enter a building or a pool bar and when I buy clothes. When I didn’t have my driver’s license, it was necessary for me to have my passport at any time with me and it was very inconvenient. But now I have my driver’s license, so it is very convenient. But now, as I have my driver’s license, it is very convenient. In the sense that I was relieved from taking my passport at any time with me, my driver’s license is worthwhile. However, I don’t drive in DC at all…

Garbage bag

アメリカのゴミ袋は、袋の上に紐が付いていて、引っ張ると、袋の口が閉まるようになっています。初めてゴミ袋を使ったときは、あまりの便利さに超感激しました！日本のゴミ袋もこうなってればいいのに・・・。大きさは、日本と同じく４５リットルくらいのもあります。お土産で買って帰ろうかと思ってしまいますけど、荷物になりますね。

A garbage bag in US has strings on the top of the bag and if I pull the strings, I can tie bag at the top. I was very impressed because it was very very convenient. I wish a garbage bag in Japan is the same as this. There is a garbage bag which has a same size, for example 45 liter in Japan. I would like to bring a garbage bag to Japan, but it is too much to carry, I think.

I love mango

アメリカで安いと思ったのが電気製品とフルーツです。私は毎朝フルーツを食べているのだけれど、スーパーにはめったに行かれないので、１回にすごい量のフルーツをまとめ買いします。今は、ブドウ、リンゴ、桃、なし、イチゴ、パパイヤ、マンゴ、スイカ、バナナ、プラム、ブルーベリーなどが売っています。私は、フルーツ全般になんでも好きですけど、写真のマンゴは、９個で８ドルです。１つ１００円くらいなので、安いですね。こんなに買ったので、ご近所におすそ分けしますけど。

I suppose electric products and fruits are cheap in US. Though I eat fruits every morning, I can’t go to a supermarket so often because I don’t have a car. So, when I go to a supermarket, I always buy many fruits. In a supermarket, there are grapes, apples, peaches, strawberries, papayas, mangos, water melons, bananas, plums and blueberries in this season. I like all kinds of fruits. The mangos in the picture are only $8 for nine. I think 100 yen for one is very cheap. As I bought so many mangos, I share them with my friends.

Golf and tennis

毎週水曜日にH先生にゴルフとテニスを教えて頂いています。H先生は、３９歳まで特許庁でお勤めになり、その後、アメリカに渡って弁護士になり、今年で２６年目だそうです。毎月１回、セミナーを開催されていることもあって、日本人トレイニーの中ではものすごく有名な先生です。前に一度お食事を一緒にした際に、テニスとゴルフの話になり、教えて頂くことになりました。H先生は、特許庁を辞めてアメリカに渡ったとき、特許で食べていくかテニスのプロになるか本気で悩んだというくらいのテニスの腕前です。レッスンは、全部で８人くらいですが、かなりハードです。H先生は、超人的な体力の持主です。

I take lessons of golf and tennis by Mr.H every Wednesday. Mr.H had worked for JPO (Japan Patent Office) until the age of 39. After that, he came to US and became an Attorney at Law. 26 years have passed since he came to the states. I am sure he is the most well-known specialist among Japanese trainees because he has a seminar every month.
When I had dinner with Mr. H, we talked about tennis and golf. Then I began to take his lessons every Wednesday. When Mr. H resigned JPO, he considered whether he made his living in patent or in tennis. So his tennis skill is terrific. About eight persons take the lessons which are very hard. I am convinced Mr. Hattori has superhuman strength.

パートナのアランがＢＢＱに招待してくれたので、Hさんご夫妻と行ってきました。おうちは、ジョージタウンにあります。ジョージタウンはＤＣの中で一番栄えている場所です。H社の知財の方が何人かいらっしゃっていていました。そのうちの部長さんは、女性の方で、３日滞在して帰るそうです。２ヶ月に１回の割合で、出張していらっしゃるとのことでした。とてもハードな生活です。
ＢＢＱというと、ホットドックやお肉ですけど、この日は特大のサーモンでした。他にもいろいろな食べ物が用意してあって、アランはとっても料理上手でした。楽しかったです。

Alan who is a partner in Sughrue invited me to BBQ, so I went to his house with Mr. and Mrs. H. His house is in Georgetown. Georgetown is the most prosperous place in DC. Some of trainees from Hitachi were also invited to the BBQ. The manager of H who is a women will return to Japan after three days. She takes oversea business trips every two month. I think it is a very tough schedule.
BBQ is always hotdog or beef, but this day’s food was a huge salmon. There were many kind of foods on the table. I think Alan is a very good cook. I had a wonderful time.

Outlets

マンハッタンから車で２時間弱くらいのところにあるウッドベリーコモン・アウトレットに行ってきました。シャネル、グッチ、プラダ、アルマーニなど、２２０のブランドがお店を出しているそうです。超広大な規模でした。
さて、アウトレットですけど、私の足のサイズや体の大きさにぴったりのものが多いです。やっぱり、私のサイズはアメリカでもレアなんですね（笑）。おかげで、アウトレットに流れてくる洋服や靴が多くて、私にとっては、アウトレットは買い物天国です。一緒に行った友達は、サイズがなくて買えないものが多いと嘆いていましたけど。

I went to Woodbury Common Outlets where it is less than two hours drive from Manhattan. I heard there are 220 shops which are Chanel, Gucci, Prada, and Armani and so on. It was really huge.
Anyway, in outlets, most of clothes and shoes fit my size.. I think there is few people who has my size in US as well as Japan. So, there are many clothes and shoes which are sent to Outlet from proper shops, and the outlets are shopping paradises for me. Although my friend who went there with me bemoaned that she couldn’t buy clothes and shoes because her size is popular.

Hotel

アメリカのホテルには、普通、冷蔵庫と歯ブラシがないです。スリッパもないですね。パジャマもないです。冷蔵庫がないので、ビールを買ってきても、即効で飲んだりしています。あたしは、最近は、ホテルに泊まるときは、ワインオープナー持参で行っています。ワインだと冷やさなくてもいいからいつでも飲めます。

Usually, there is no refrigerator and toothbrush in a hotel in US. There is also no slippers and pajamas. As there is no refrigerator, I drink beer so fast when I buy beers. Recently, I bring a wine opener when I stay in a hotel. As I don't have to cool wine, I can drink at anytime.

He loves NY!

寛成クンにＮＹで買ったベビー服をお土産であげたのだけれど、ホックが股の下しかなくて、とっても着せにくいそうです。ごめんなさい。着せてみないと、そういうことはわからないものですね・・産まれて２週間なのに、もうジャストサイズだそうです。赤ちゃんって大きくなるの早いな。それにしてもかわいい。早く会いたいな・・
１０月１１日～１３日の連休に名古屋に帰る予定です。名古屋の友達でこのブログを見ている人がいたら、連絡下さいね。

Although I gave Hiro-kun a baby clothes which I bought in NY as a souvenir, there is a hook only in the inguinal, so I heard from my sister it was hard to clothe Hiro-kun. I am so sorry. I don’t know because I have never dressed the clothes. Although two weeks go by since he was born, I heard the clothes was just his size. I think babies grow up so quickly. Anyway, he is really cute!! I would like to see him as soon as possible.

Oil blotting sheet

アメリカには、あぶら取り紙なんてないに違いないと思って、日本から１年分のあぶら取り紙を持ってきましたが（笑）、どこでも売ってるようですね・・・。私、まだ見たことないんですけど。ネットによると、ＣＶＳでもターゲットでもどこでも売っているみたいです。アメリカ人もあぶらが浮くのね。ＣＶＳは、マツキヨみたいなドラッグストアーで、アメリカ各地にあります。とても便利。ターゲットは、食品以外（若干はありますけど）ならなんでも（電化製品、衣料品、寝具、食器、ある程度の家具）揃うというお店で、これまたとても便利。

As I thought there might be no oil blotting sheet in US, I brought oil blotting sheet a whole year’s supply, however, oil blotting sheet seems to be sold at any place. But, I have never seen it yet. According to the internet, an oil blotting sheet is sold at CVS or a target. I understand Americans also get the shines on their faces.
CVS is like a Matumotokiyosi, and there are many CVS in US. They are very convenient. Target is shops which sell all things but food (there is some food in Target) (they sell appliances, clothes, bedclothes, dishes and some of furniture), and it is also very convenient.

Bank of America

アメリカでは、１００ドル札は使えるんだけれど、使えないところも多いので、１００ドル札を２０ドル札に交換しに、Bank of Americaに行ってきました。Bank of Americaは、私のアカウントがある銀行です。チェックの引き落としなんかは、ここからです。さて、Bank of Americaだけか、全ての銀行がそうかはわかりませんが、５００ドルを２０ドル札に交換したんですけど、アカウントを持っているか、とは聞かれません。とても親切です。
そういえば、出国のとき、成田空港にある銀行で、１００ドル札を細かくして下さいと言ったら、１ドル当たり、３円程度の手数料がかかると言われました。なんという違い。

My stile

アメリカの事務所では、スリッパなんて履かないと聞いていましたが、私は、日本と同じように、スリッパを買って、スリッパに履き替えています。そして、日本と同じように、フリースを毎日着ています（笑）。フリースを着て、スリッパを履いて、いつものスタイルになると、仕事やる気がわいてくるのですね。不思議です。アメリカ人も全員ではありませんが、スリッパ（内履き）を使用しているようです。やっぱスリッパが一番。

I heard people don’t put on their slippers in the Office in US, but I bought a pair of slippers and I wear them in the office as I do in Japan. Furthermore, I always wear a fleece as well as Japan. When I wear a fleece and put on my slippers, it is my usual style, I think I have more incentive. It is strange. Some of Americans seem to put on their slippers. I think slippers are best!

Bank

日本と違うなと思うのは銀行です。アメリカの銀行はものすごく空いています。日本だとお昼休みに銀行に行くだけで、お昼休みがなくなってしまいますけど、アメリカは、ほとんど待たずに処理してくれます。
アメリカでは、１００ドル札は使えないと聞きますが、そんなことないです。駅や小さいお店は無理ですけど、デパートはもちろん、ＣＶＳ（ドラッグストアー）やスーパでも使用することができます。でも１００ドル札を使うと、ものすごい大金を使った気分になります。日本だと１万円札に相当すると思いますけど、アメリカの１００ドルは、３万円くらいの感覚でしょうか・・・。いつも１０ドル札や２０ドル札ばっかり使ってるからですね。

I am sure that a bank in US is different from that in Japan. It is very unoccupied in a bank in US. In Japan, I run out of time to spend lunch break if I go to a bank at the time, but in US, they process everything without any waiting..
I hear that I can’t use a $100 bill in US, but this is not true. Though I can’t use a $100 bill at stations and small shops, I can use it at a department store as well as a CVS (drug store) and a supermarket.
Well, when I use a $100 bill, I have a feeling of spending too much money. I think that $100 in US corresponds to 10,000 yen in Japan, but I feel as if I have spent $300. This is because I always use a $10 bill or a $20 bill.
