Thanksgiving dinner

シュグルのパートナのサニーに招待してもらって、サンクスギビングディナーに行ってきました。総勢１５人ほど。サニーの旦那のJonが朝７時から用意したという、特大のターキーをごちそうになりました。１０キロだそうです。これがものすごく美味しかった！！クリスマスよりサンクスギビングの方が大きなパーティをするらしく、特大ターキーを焼くのは、感謝祭のときが主だそうです。ワインもシャンパンもビールもデザートも何もかもがおいしくて、ついつい食べ過ぎてしまいました（笑）。着々と私のお腹が成長しています。。。

Sunny who is a partner in Sughrue invited us, trainees in Sughrue, to the Thanksgiving party, so we went to the dinner party. We, guests, are 15! It was a big party. We ate a huge turkey which Sunny’s husband, Jon, prepared from 7:00 am in the morning. It was 10 kg!!! I have never eaten such a delicious turkey. They have a bigger party in Thanksgiving Day rather than Christmas. So, Jon usually bakes a huge turkey on Thanksgiving Day. As wine, champagne and beer and desserts are all delicious, I ate too much… My body is getting bigger step by step….

Thanksgiving Day

アメリカでは、１１月の第４木曜日は、感謝祭で、どこもかしこもお休みになります。シュグルもマギンもお休みです。でも、日本はお休みではないので、私はアパートでお仕事ですけど。みんな木曜日がお休みなので、だいたいみんな金曜日もお休みをとって、４連休にしています。アメリカ人は、家族に会いに実家に帰る人が多いみたいです。または、友達とパーティしたり。私たちシュグルー日本人トレイニー達は、シュグルのアトーニに招待されて、ディナーパーティに行く予定です。きっと大きな七面鳥が食べられます^^。

In America, the fourth Thursday of November is Thanksgiving Day, and every store is closed. Sughrue and McGinn Office are closed as well. But as I work in accordance with Japan, I do working at my apartment. Most of Americans take a holiday on Friday, because Thanksgiving Day is Thursday. Therefore, they have four-day weekend.. Most of the Americans go back to their home town. Otherwise, they have a party with their friends. AS one of the attorneys in Sughrue invites
us, Japanese trainees in Sughrue, to the dinner party, I will go to the party after updating my blog. I believe I can eat a huge turkey^^.

Mad spa and winery

カルフォルニアといえば、ワイン、ということで、サンフランシスコのお隣のナパバレーに行ってきました。目的は、泥風呂（マッドスパ）とワイナリーめぐり。マッドスパは初めてでしたけど、おばちゃんに、体中、泥を塗りたくられました。結構気持ち悪い・・・。で、硫黄の匂いもきつい。その後、ジェットバスに入って、サウナに入って、仮眠をとって、終了でした。６０ドルなので、お値打ちかな。でも、効能があったかどうかは疑問（笑）。
その後、ワイナリーを２つまわりました。もっとまわりたかったけど、時間がなかったです。ワイナリーでは、友達とシェアして、ワインを１ダース購入しました。４日後に到着予定です。DCに帰ったら、ワインパーティですっ！

Talking of it, California is famous for its wine. Therefore, we went to the Napa Valley located next to San Francisco. The purpose was to have a mud spa and a tour of winery. I had never had a mud spa before. A lady in charge applied thick mud to my body. It was not comfortable...Then I took a jet bath, sauna, a light nap and it was finished. It cost $60. I suppose it was a reasonable price. But I wonder if it had benefit for my body. After that, we went to two wineries. After that, we visited two wineries. Although we wanted to visit more wineries, we could not. This is because every wineries close at 5:00 pm. I bought one dozen of wine!!! I will receive them in four days by courier. When I return to DC, I have A WINE PARTY.

Alcatraz

サンフランシスコのフィッシャーマンズワーフから船で２０分のところに、アルカトラズ島があります。昔、刑務所だったところです。かの有名な、アルカポネも収監されていた刑務所です。ということで、行ってきました。アルカトラズ島からのサンフランシスコの夜景がきれいということで、ナイトツアーに行ってきました。刑務所のお部屋は、小さく、寒そうでした。日本語ガイドでツアーができて、とてもよかったです（って、英語の勉強になってませんが・・・）。夜のサンフランシスコは、とても美しかったです。

There is the ALCATRAZ in 20 minutes by ship from Fisherman’s Wharf in San Francisco. The ALCATRAZ is an island which was a prison long ago. ALCATRAZ is a prison which was locked up the famous “Al Capone”. As I had heard the night view was very beautiful from the ALCATRAZ, we joined a night tour. The room in the prison was very small and felt very cold. There was a tour for Japanese, so I could understand it well. (But, it was no good for improving my English...).
Mid-evening, San Francisco is really beautiful.

San Francisco

サンディエゴから飛行機で１時間程度なので、ついでにサンフランシスコにも行ってきました。サンディエゴよりは若干寒いのですけど、DCよりは全然暖かかったです。そういえば、国内線は、手荷物を預けると、１５ドル取られます。でも、事前に自分のPCやホテルの端末から、チェックインしておくと、１２ドルで手荷物を預けられます。サンフランシスコでは、ワイナリーに行ってカリフォルニアワインをいっぱい買おうと思ってたので、大きなカバンで行きましたが、結局、ワインは輸送にしちゃいました。その代わり何を買ったかというと、朝練ゴルフ用のジャージ、一式です（笑）。たまたま立ち寄ったスーパで・・・。ってか、なんでわざわざカルフォルニアでジャージを買ってんだろうと、ものすごく後悔しましたけど・・・。

As it takes about one hour flight, we also went to San Francisco. It was a little colder than San Diego, but it was much warmer than DC. BTW, when we check our baggage in domestic airlines, we have to pay $15 per one baggage. But if we check in before arriving at airport with our PC or terminals in the hotel, we can check in our baggage with $12. As I thought when I went to California, I set my heart on buying many bottles of wine, I took a big baggage. But in the end, I sent the bottles of wine.
Instead of that, I bought a set of jersey for morning practice of golf at the supermarket in San Diego on the way to the hotel… I regretted that I bought a set of jersey in California very much…

Sea World

サンディエゴのSea Worldに行ってきました。巨大な水族館です。水族館というか、海に住んでいる動物の動物園という感じでしょうか。１１時から、アシカショーを見て、１２時半からイルカショーを見て、２時からシャチショーを見ました。これがとっても楽しい。小さい子供たちがたくさんいましたけど、大人が行っても十分楽しめました。シャチやイルカにどうやって芸を仕込むのかな・・・。
お金を払えば、エイやイルカに餌をあげることもできます。エイに餌をやったんですけど（小魚）、ぬるぬるしてでっかい口で手を吸いつかれて、ちょっと気持ち悪かったです（笑）。

I went to Sea World in San Diego. It is a huge aquarium. Well, Sea World is a zoo of animals living in sea rather than an aquarium. I watched eared seals show from 11:00 am, dolphins show from 12:30 pm, and killer whales show from 2:30 pm. The shows were very fun. Although there were many kids, but we, adults also enjoyed. I don’t know how to teach performing to dolphins and killer whales…
If we pay the money, we can feed rays and dolphins. I fed rays little fishes, it was a little uncomfortable, because rays sucked my hand with big slimy mouth..

Viva California!

日本が三連休だったので、私もお休みを頂いて、サンディエゴ＆サンフランシスコに行ってきました！サンディエゴは、とっても暖かく、お昼まは半そででゴルフできました。でも、朝と夜は、ちょっと冷えます。ほんとうに、とってもよい気候です。DCとの時差は、３時間（早い）です。フライトは、ダレス空港から直行便が飛んでいて、飛行時間５時間です。やっぱり西海岸はいいですね・・・。サンディエゴには、BSKBの研修で一緒だった友達が住んでいて、というかサンディエゴで研修をしているのです。サンディエゴで研修だったら、毎週ゴルフ三昧ですね。シーフードがとっても美味しかったです！

Since it was a three-day weekend in Japan, I took a leave absence from my boss, then I went to San Diego and San Francisco! It was very warm in San Diego, therefore, we could play golf with short-sleeved shirts. But it is a little cold in the morning and the night. It is really nice weather in San Diego. The time difference from DC is three hours (earlier). There are direct airplanes from Dulles airport in VA and it takes five hours form Dulles to San Diego. As everyone said, the west coast is very nice… In San Diego, one of my friends who took the training in BSKB with me lives in, and he is taking another training there. If Japanese trainees takes the training in San Diego, they are absorbed in golfing every week. The sea food was very tasty in San Diego.

Morning practice

アメリカ人の友達には、crazyと言われていますが、私たちは、早朝のゴルフ練習を始めました！朝７時に練習場に集合です。シュグルーのトレイニーメンバーです。私は、ジャージを持ってないので、皮パンとセータ二枚重ねで行きました。外はとっても寒いですが、やってみると、これがとっても気持ちいい。ボールを打ち出すを身体を動かすので、コートを脱いでも寒くないです。ただ、手先と足先がものすごい冷えますけど。ゴルフ練習の後、朝ごはんを食べて、仕事に行きました。なんて健康的なんでしょう！
Although, my friends said to me I am a crazy, we started to practice to play golf early in the morning. We come together in a driving range at 7:00 am. We are all trainees in Sughrue. As I don’t have a jersey, I wore leather pants and reduplicate sweater. As it is very cold outside in the morning, when I practiced golf, I feel so good! When I started to hit a ball, I don’t feel cold. But tip of my fingers and toes are very cold. After golf practice, we went to have a breakfast, then we went to work. What a healthy life it is!

DC is not cold??

DCは寒いと聞いていましたがとても寒いです。が、とても温かいのです。ビルの中は。アパートは、隅から隅まで暖房がきいているので、お部屋で暖房をつけなくてもよいくらいです。なお、夏は、隅から隅まで冷房がきいているので、部屋の中で冷房をつけなくてもよいです。当然Sughrueの入っているオフィスビルも温かいです。なので、移動のときだけが寒いです。なので、朝、コートを着て家を出ると汗ばむくらいです。さすがにこの温度差には、まいりますけど・・・。

As I have heared from someone that DC is very cold, it is true. But it is very warm in DC, in buildings or apartments. Since it is warm throughout our apartment by heating, I don’t need to turn on a heater in my room. For your information, in summer, air-conditioner are working throughout our apartment and it is needless for me to turn on an air-conditioner. In winter season, of course, the building of Sughrue is very warm. Therefore, I feel cold only when I am outside. When I wear a coat in my room
in the morning, I feel sweaty. I am annoyed with the difference of temperature.

First snow

今日(11/18)は寒いなぁと思っていたら、お昼まに雪が降ったようです。初雪かな。ワシントンは、とても寒いです。日本でも、もうコート必須かな。DCは、コートとマフラーと手袋必須って感じです。私は寒いのが大の苦手なので、とても困ってますけど・・・。こんなに寒いのに、好きな人は好きなんですね・・・みんながんばってゴルフやっています。みんなズボンを二重に履くそうですけど（笑）。

As I supposed it was very cold today, it snowed in the afternoon. It must be a first snow. It is so cold in DC. It might be the first snowfall. It is very cold in DC now. Same as DC, I imagine everybody needs a coat in Japan. I need a muffler and gloves in addition to a coat in DC. I need a scarf and gloves in addition to a coat in DC. It is no good because the cold makes me very uncomfortable. Regardless of the cold weather, some people play golf...I can’t believe it. But, actually, they need to wear reduplicated trousers!

Winery tour

Sughrueのジャニスに、ワイナリーツアーに連れていってもらいました。総勢１２人だったので、大きなバンを借りていきました。予定では、ワイナリーを５件回って、テイスティングをすることになってました。朝１１時から夜まで飲みっぱなしです。ワイナリーでは、５～１０本くらいのワインを５～１０ドルくらいでテイスティングして、おいしかったワインを２本くらい購入してみんなで飲む、というのを繰り返しました。で、２件回ったところで、これは、３件くらいでいいのではないかと、いう感じになってしまいました。酔っぱらいです。で、４件目は飛ばして、なんとか５件目に行きました。５件目のワイナリーが一番おいしくて、ワインを２本買って帰りました。でも、うちに付いたら酔いが冷めてしまって、新しいワインを開けて飲んだりしたのでした・・・。

Janice in Sughrue took us to the winery tour. As a total of us is 12, so we rent a big van. We were going to go to five wineries and taste. We drank wine continuously from 11:00 am. In the winery, we repeated tasting 5-10 bottles of wine around 5-10 dollars, then we chose the best of two bottles, then drank. Then, after two wineries, we felt one more was OK, but three more were too much… We all got really drunk. Therefore, we skipped the fourth winery, we tried to go to the last winery. But the last winery had the best tasting wine. I bought two bottles of wine. But, when I returned to my apartment, I got sober. So, I opened new bottle of wine and I drank a glass of wine again…

Houtou-Nabe

今日は、久しぶりに日本食を作っています。日本から大和イモを送ってもらったので、とろろごはんを作ります。後、寒いのでほうとう鍋を作ります。それから、おいなりさん、豚の角煮、筑前煮、かぼちゃの煮物も作りました。今日は、７人来る予定なので大量です。朝からクッキングのTVを見ながらお料理してます。お醤油をさんざん使っています。やっぱり日本食が一番だなぁ・・・。

It has been a while since I cooked Japanese food. As I had my friend send Yamato-Imo, I will make Tororo-Gohan. Further, as it is very cold in DC, I will make Houtou-Nabe. Furthermore, I cooked Kakuni of pork, Tikuzen-ni, and Nimono of pumpkin. Since seven people will come to my apartment, I will cook a lot of food. I am cooking watching a cooking program on TV. I used a lot of soy sauce. I think Japanese food are the most delicious food in the world.

Internet

ついに、アパートのインターネットが接続しました。今までは、アパートのビジネスセンターにPCを持って行って、メール等を読んでいましたけど、やっとお部屋の中でインターネットが使えるようになりました。DCには、VerizonとComcastという通信会社があるんですけど、Verizonは、約束の日に工事に来ないということで、Comcastにしました。でも平日はなかなか時間が取れなくて、友達に何度も何度も変更の電話を入れてもらいました。工事の終了後もネットにつながらず、Comcastに電話してやっと開通しました。これでブログが更新できます！

Finally, the internet of my apartment has been connected to my room. Until now, although I took my laptop PC to the business center of my apartment, and connected it to the internet and read e-mail. I can use the internet in my room finally. A there are two providers, Verizon and Comcast, but Verizon did not come, even if I made a reservation. So, I applied Comcast. But, I didn’t have much time on weekdays, I had my friend call to Comcast to change my reservation many times. Furthermore, after completion of work, I still could not connect the internet, then I called Comcast, and finally, I could connect. Now, I can update my blog.

Sean＆Fred

最近は、週に１回くらい、West Falls Churchの近くのマギン事務所に行っています。ＯＡについての話し合いや翻訳チェクをしてもらっています。だいたい、お昼前に行って、ディスカッションして、お昼御飯をごちそうになって、帰ってきます。お昼は、マギンさんのジャガーに乗って食べに行きます。ごはんの後、West Falls Churchの駅まで送ってくださるのですが、必ず車から降りて、挨拶をされます。そして、私が駅の入り口に行くまで、車の横で立ったまま、ずっと私を見送って下さいます・・・。
とても親切な方です。とてもわかりやすい英語で話して下さいます。翻訳は、マギンさんとフレッドさんに見てもらってますが、説明もとてもわかりやすくて、毎回行くのが楽しみです。

I go to McGinn Office near West Falls Church Station once a week these days. There I discuss OAs and have my translation checked. I usually go there before noon, make discussions, then have lunch with Mr. Sean McGinn and Mr. Fred Cooperrider. After that, I return to home. I usually go for lunch by Jaguar of Sean. After lunch, Sean gives me a lift to West Falls Church metro station. Sean always gets out from his car, and says good-bye to me. Then he watches me walk off until I go to the gate of the station!
They are very kind to me. and they speak English slowly to me. I have my translation checked by Sean and Fred. Their explanation is always easy for me to understand, so I enjoy going to McGinn Office.

Express

メトロの入り口では、毎朝Expressという無料の新聞が配られています。私も電車の中で読むのでもらいます（あんまり意味わかりませんけど・・・）。無料なのがいいです。日本のニュースもたまに載ってます。Expressは大体黒人の男の人が配ってます。私が笑顔でThank you!と言って毎朝もらうからか、Ballstonで配っている人は、朝、私を見つけるとニッと笑って近寄ってきて渡してくれます・・・。歯が抜けてるのがちょっと怖いです・・。

Express, which is a free newspaper is distributed in front of the gate of metro every morning. I receive Express because I read it in the train. But I can’t understand it well… I like it because it is free. There is sometimes some Japanese news. Express is usually distributed by a black man. The man who distributes in Ballston come to me and hand it with a big smile when he finds me, because it might be that I receive it saying “Thank you” with a smile…

Turning color of the leaves

ワシントンは、紅葉まっ盛りです。日本もかな。ヴァージニアは緑が多いので、市内を走っているだけでも紅葉がよく見られます。とてもよい環境です。最近暖かかったのですが、急に寒くなりました。ひと冬に何度か雪が積もるらしいです。さて、寒さ、特に雪なんて、私の坐骨神経痛にはとても悪いので、ちょっぴり心配してますけど。
そういえば、夏に母親が来た時に、ものすごい量のカイロを置いて帰りました。お母さんありがとう。これからいっぱい使うね。

Virginia is at the height of the fall foliage. I think Japan is also the “koyo” season. As there are many greens in VA, we can see the autumn leaves, when we just drive down in the downtown. I think it is very good environment here. It was quite warm these days, but it has suddenly gotten cold yesterday.. I heard it snows several times in winter in VA. Well, the cold and snowing is very bad for my sciatica, so I am worried about that…
That reminds me, when my mother came to Washington DC this summer, she left many many pocket warmers. Thank you, mama. I will use them from now.

Election date

民主党のバラク・オバマが当選しましたね。今日は選挙日だったので、レストランも空いていました。夜１２時ごろ、ワシントン市内を通りましたけど、結構人が出ていて、みんなクラクションなんかを鳴らしてオバマの当選を祝っていました。アメリカで初めての黒人の大統領です。私は、政治のことは全くわからないけど、何かが変わりそう、みたいな期待感があります。

Mr.Barack Obama of the Democratic was elected to be a president of United States. It was the Election Day today, so most of restaurants were unoccupied. When I drove through DC in the midnight, there were many people in town, and hit the horn and celebrated the victory of Obama.. He is the first black president of US. He is the first black president of US. I don’t exactly know about politics, but I have a little expectation for Obama.

Patent Attorney exam

日本では弁理士試験の合格発表がありました。うちの事務所も一人合格者がでました。とてもとてもうれしかったです。数年前に吉田ゼミに一緒に通っていた友達も合格しました。ほんとうによかったです。思い出すと、弁理士試験を受けたのは、ものすごい昔のことのようですけど、実はつい最近です。でも、試験合格するまでは、こうやってワシントンに研修にくることなんか考えていませんでした。色々な経験を積むと、色々な可能性が広がります。弁理士試験が研修のきっかけになったとしたら、この研修が他の何かのきっかけになればよいなと思います。

There was an announcement of result of Patent Attorney Exam in Japan. One of my colleagues passed the exam. I was really happy to hear that. One of my friends who went to Yoshida Zemi together several years ago also passed the exam. I am very glad.
Thinking back several years ago, I have the feeling that I had the patent attorney exam many years ago, but actually, it is fairly recent. I didn't think that I would come to Washington DC to work as a trainee before passing the exam. Many experiences give me many chances. If the patent attorney exam became the motivation for working as a trainee in US, I hope the training will open up some other options.

Late- night TV

うちはケーブルテレビですけど、特に夜中は、テレビショッピングがいっぱいやっています。こうやって、時差ボケのおかげで眠れない日が続くと、私のショッピングが止まらなくなります。でも、電話しても、相手によって、とても聞き取りにくい英語のときがあります。その場合は、かけ直しますって言って切っちゃうんですけど。化粧品の場合が多いのですけど、大抵は、１回購入すると、次の月から自動的に商品が送られ、キャンセルするまで購入し続けることになります。で、あたしは、１回購入すると、英語ができる友達のところに行って、キャンセルの電話をしてもらうわけですね。じゃ、買わなければいいんだけど・・・（苦笑）。

I have cable TV at my apartment in US, and there are many TV-shopping programs in the midnight. I spend sleepless nights like this watching, and then I can’t stop buying on TV-shopping. But, if I call, I can’t hear her or him very well, depending on their pronunciation. In this case, I usually say “I will call back” and hang up… It is often the case of cosmetics, usually, once I buy, the product will be sent to me automatically from the next month, so I have to buy the cosmetic continually. So, once I made a call to TV-shopping, I go to my friend who speaks English fluently, and I have her call them to cancel. I think I should not buy cosmetics anymore…

Jet lag

２９日の夜にワシントンに無事到着しました。今日は１１月４日ですが、夜１０時ごろ寝ちゃって１２時ごろ起きて、さて眠れません。３時までベッドでがんばったけど、諦めてブログを更新することにしました。東京からワシントンにくると、ほんとに時差ボケが厳しいです。こないだも１週間、こんな生活が続いたので、今回も１週間続くでしょう・・・。

I returned to Washington DC at night on October 29 safely. It is November 4th today. I went to bed at 10:00 pm last night and woke up at 0:00 am, after then I can’t sleep anymore. I tried to sleep until 3:00 am, but I gave up sleeping and decided to update my blog. Whenever I return to Washington DC from Tokyo, I get a bad case of jet lag.
Last time, my jet lag continued for one week and I spent the days like this way. So, I guess the jet lag will continue for more than a week this time, too.

Bob Sapp

成田空港の喫茶店でコーヒーを飲んで時間を潰してたら、ボブサップが現れました（笑）。でかい！あたしもかるがる持ち上げそうなでかさ。腕が太い！
とっても優しくて社交的な人のようで、写真を撮るのも快く許してくれて、お店にいた、全員のお客さんと、代わる代わる、写真を取っていました。ファンになっちゃおっかな～。

When I was killing time in a cafe in Narita airport, Bob Sapp appeared. He was huge! As he was big, I think he can lift me up easily. His arms were also thick.
As he was very kind and outgoing, all customers who were in the café took pictures with him by turns. I may become his fan.

Madonna

渋谷駅から３分くらいのところに居酒屋マドンナがあります。私の東京のお母さんみたいなママが切り盛りしているお店です。いつ行っても、おいしーものばっかり出してくれます。東京に帰ってる間に４，５回は行っちゃったかな（笑）。ママは私のお友達でもあり、相談相手でもあり、お母さんでもあるという、不思議な存在の人です。お料理を作っているたくちゃんと一緒に私のワシントン行きを心から応援してくれています。ママに胸を張ってただいまと言えるように、ワシントンでがんばります。

The Izakaya "Madonna" is three minutes walk from Shibuya station. Mama who is my mother in Tokyo runs Madonna smoothly. Whenever I go to Madonna, Mama and Taku-chan welcome me with very tasty dishes. I went there four or five times during my stay in Tokyo in October. Mama is my significant friend, my adviser and my mother in Tokyo as well, so she is very special for me. Mama and Taku-chan who makes dishes back up heartily my going to US. I do my best in Washington DC in order to say "Hi!" with confidence, when I return to Japan.

Maguroichokusen

出勤最終日に、響のみんなとマグロ一直線で飲みました。弁理士試験も終わって、付記試験も終わって、今は仕事も一段落しているようで、いつものメンバーでしたけど、楽しく飲んで食べました。先週一週間、ものすごい腰の調子が悪かったのですけど、週明けからなんとか我慢できる痛さになりました。私の予感では、ワシントンに戻ると腰痛は治るんじゃないかと。日本に帰ってきちゃったので、日本が居心地がよくって、ワシントンに戻りたくないのかな・・・。

At the last day at work in Japan, I drunk with my colleague of Hibiki at Maguro-Ichokusen. The patent attorney exam was finished, and also Fuki-exam was finished, and it was not so busy these days, so we enjoyed drinking and eating with usual members. I had a very big backache in previous one week, but I felt better the beginning of the next week. I think my back ache will be cured when I return to DC. I felt cozy because everyone are kind to me, so I guess I don’t want to returned to DC…

Twins

友達の双子に会いに行ってきました。彼女は、去年の６月に、無事、男の子二人の双子を出産しました。出産直後に病院に会いに行ったときは、まだ体の調子も戻っていなくて、でも双子にはひっきりなしにおっぱいをあげなければならなくて、ほとんど寝ていなくて、とても大変そうでしたけど、生後１年４か月、双子はとっても大きくて、走り回って、そしてものすごく食べまくって、とっても元気でかわいかったです。やっぱり男の子は元気だなぁと思います。友達は、双子を育てつつお仕事もこなしてます。私には、自慢できる友達しかいませんけど、彼女ももちろん自慢のお友達です。

I went to see twins of my friend in Nakano. She gave birth to twin boys who were two boys safely last June. When I went to see her just after she gave birth, she didn’t feel well, but she continually had to breast-feed two babies. So she had little sleep and looked so tired. But now, the twins are one year four months and have grown well. They run around the room, and eat very very much, and they are very very cute!!! I think boys are really full of beans. My friend raises her twins and performs her job. I am proud of all my friends and of course, she is one of the proudest friends.

Last supper

日本での最後の晩餐は、恵比寿に蕎麦懐石を食べにいきました。自家製のカラスミや、取れたてのいくらや、焼きマツタケなんかを食べつつ、ビールを飲んで冷酒を飲んで熱燗を飲んで、焼酎の蕎麦湯割りを飲みました。（って、ちゃんぽんしすぎです・・）
コースのしめはやっぱりお蕎麦なんですけど、お料理を少なめにしてもらって、お蕎麦を２種類頂きました。蕎麦の実全部から作った、ちょっと黒っぽいお蕎麦と、蕎麦の実の中心部部分のみを使用した更科そばを頂きました。やっぱりお蕎麦はおいしい～。ワシントンに行ってちょっと痩せましたが、東京に１月戻ったおかげで、また太っちゃいました（笑）。

I went to eat Soba-Kaiseki (tea-ceremony dishes) at Ebisu as a last supper in Japan. I waited for the Soba eating home- made Karasumi, very fresh Ikura, and baked Matsutake, and drinking beer, Taru-Sake (cold sake), warmed sake and Shochuu and Soba-yu. It is called Chinese-style hotchpotch in Japan.
The last dish is Soba, of course, and I like Soba very much. So, So, I reduced some of the dishes and I ate two kinds of Sobas. One is blackish Soba which is made from whole berry of buckwheat flower and another is white Soba which is made from center section of berry of buckwheat flower which is called Sarashina-Soba. I thought Soba is very tasty. I lost weight a little in Washington, but I gained weight in Tokyo, because Tokyo has many many tasty foods!

Shin-Soba

日本では積極的に蕎麦を食べました。今はちょうど新蕎麦のシーズンです。二八蕎麦もおいしいけど、やっぱり十割蕎麦がいいかな。香りもいいし。その中で“いけだ”は、私のお気に入りの蕎麦屋です。群馬県の沼田インターの近くにあります。名物は、鉄板の上に乗ってくる、厚揚げ。お豆腐を直に揚げて、鉄板に揚げたお豆腐と、その上にたくさんの大根おろしとネギが乗ってます。そして、ママさんが、テーブルに運んでから、お醤油ベースのタレをジュッってかけてくれます。これがいい音。この厚揚げを食べつつ、ビールを飲みつつ蕎麦を待ちます。お蕎麦は十割蕎麦ですけど、とってもこしがあっておいしいです。最近は人気が出たようで、お昼時に行くと、行列ができてます。

I often ate Soba during my stay in Japan.. Now is the season of Shin-Soba. Although Ni-Hachi Soba is very tasty (80% is made from buckwheat flower and 20% is made from flower), I think Jyu-wari Soba (100% is made from buckwheat flower) is best. Because the smell is good. One of the best buckwheat-noodle restaurants is “Ikeda”. It is located near Numata Exit in Gunma Prefecture. A typical dish is deep-fried tofu which is served on a cast-iron pan. Tofu is fried directly in oil, much grated radish and cibol is on the deep-fried tofu. Then, mom of Ikeda serves it to the table and adds sauce which is made by soy sauce. The sound is very good. I usually wait for the Soba drinking beer and eating the deep-fried tofu. Soba of Ikeda is Jyu-wari Soba, but it is very firm noodle and it is very tasty. Recently, Ikeda seems to become popular, so many people line up at lunch time.

２９日に無事にワシントンに到着し、薬も無事に運ぶことができました。ただ、家のインターネットが接続していないのでなかなかブログを更新できません。事務所では、翻訳に追われちゃって、ブログを書いている時間がありません。。。あと１週間くらいしたら、もと通り、ブログもアップしますね。
