Corcovado

コルコバードの丘は、リオの最もメジャーな観光スポットの一つです。海抜709ｍの絶壁の上に、両手を広げた巨大なキリスト像が立っています。1931年に建造されたそうで、キリスト像の高さは３０ｍ。重さ１１４５トン。両手を広げる姿は、十字架のようにも見えます。山の頂上までは、電車で行くことができます。とにかく、キリスト像の巨大さには、圧倒。どうやって、この像を山の頂上まで運んだんだろう、とか、なんで、こんな絶壁の上にキリスト像を建てようと考えたんだろうとか、色々考えちゃいます。山頂から眺めるリオの町もまたすばらしかったです。私たちは、午前中に上りましたが、今度行く時とは、夕暮れ時に行ってみたいなぁと思います。

Corcovado is one of the most popular sightseeing spots in Rio. A huge Christ statue that opens both hands stands on the cliff which rises 709 meters out of the sea. I read about it in a guide book that the statue was built in 1931, and the height of the statue is 30 meters and weight is 1145 tons. The form of Christ with arms spread looks like the cross. We can go to the top of the cliff by mountain tram. I was simply overwhelmed with the huge size I wonder how they brought the statue to the top of the cliff and why they thought of building such a huge Christ statue on the cliff… The view from the top of the cliff was so wonderful! We went to the top of the cliff in the morning, so if I go to next, I would like to go there in the late afternoon in time for sunset.
