First day – Carnival

日本からもＤＣからも大体リオには、朝到着します。空港から町中までは、タクシーで６０レアルくらい（２５００円くらい）です。タクシーが安くて便利ですが、たまに、よくないタクシーがあるらしいです。ブラジルは、治安がよくないので結構緊張します。さて、初日は、ｂｓｋｂのサマーセミナで友達になったパトリシアに会って、カーニバルを見に行きました。私たちが到着したのは、２１日ですが、２００９年のリオのカーニバルは、２１日から２４日の４日間です。町中は、ものすごい人でした。道路に人があふれて、そこら中で歌ったり踊ったり。ビーチにも人が溢れていました。私達は、カーニバルの熱気にただただ圧倒。男の人達は、なぜか女装してるし、みんな様々な仮面やウィッグを付けてました。なんでもあり、みたいな・・・。私たちも遅れをとってはいけないと、かつらや髪飾りを買ってブラジル人の仲間入りをしましたけど（笑）。
カーニバル中は、みんなお昼すぎまで寝てるらしいです。なぜかというと、カーニバルが本格的に始まるのが夜の９時すぎ。そして、みんな朝の５、６時まで踊り続けるのです。カーニバル中は、どこの会社もお休みになるそうです。そして、毎晩踊り続けるらしい・・・。私たちもパトリシアに連れられて、ダンスクラブのようなところにいきましたけど、本格的に込みだすのは１２時過ぎ。そして、ブラジル人のステップにただただ感動。みんなとってもとってもダンスが上手です。子供でさえも上手にステップを踏んでました。一生懸命真似してみましたけど、とてもとても難しいし、足の筋肉を相当使う。ブラジル人の足は、サンバステップのおかげか、みんなとても美しい筋肉がついていて、とても魅力的でした。

Usually we arrive at Rio in the morning from Tokyo and DC. It costs about R$60 by taxi from the airport in Rio to downtown. It is convenient to use taxi, but I heard some of taxies are no good. I was nervous because I read Brazil was not safe.
In the first day, my friends and I met Patricia who is a good friend, then went to see the carnival. We met Patricia at BSKB’s summer seminar last June. We arrived at Rio on February 21st. The carnival continues for four days and the carnival in 2009 was held from 21st to 24th. There were huge amount of people in the city. Many people were overflown on the road, and everyone sang and danced. There were also huge people in the beach. We were just overwhelmed by the fever of the carnival. Most of men wore women’s clothes, and everyone wore various kinds of face masks or wigs. We thought we must not fall behind them, so we bought wig and face mask and joined Brazilin people^^.
I heard most of Brazilian people sleep until after noon, because the carnival starts at 9 pm and finishes at 5 or 6 am! Every company closes during the carnival. Everyone continues dancing during the carnival. Patricia took us to the large dance club, and the club became crowded hard after 12:00 am. We were very impressed about Brazilian step. Brazilian people are really good at dancing, even children. We tried to copy Brazilian dance, but it was too difficult and we have to use our leg muscles hard. The legs of Brazilian have beautiful muscle and are very sexy, because of samba dance.
